Memphis vs. Boise State 3/25/21 - NIT Basketball Picks & Predictions

The Boise State Broncos and the Memphis Tigers are set to visit UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas for a matchup in the NIT quarterfinals. The 2nd seeded Boise State Broncos come into this matchup with a 19-8 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their 1st round matchup against the SMU Mustangs, 85-84. Leading the way for the Boise State Broncos was junior forward Mladen Armus as he recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Emmanuel Akot had a productive outing for the Broncos as he pitched in 17 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds.

The Boise State Broncos had a good shooting game against the SMU Mustangs as they connected on 30 of their 59 field goal attempts (50.8%), and they were very good from behind the three-point line (48.3%). The Boise State Broncos lost the turnover battle against the SMU Mustangs (14-10), but they edged out the Mustangs in the rebounding department (31-28).

The 1st seeded Memphis Tigers come into this matchup with a 17-8 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their 1st round matchup against the Dayton Flyers, 71-60. Leading the way for the Memphis Tigers was sophomore guard Landers Nolley II as he recorded 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Joining Nolley II in the backcourt was sophomore guard Lester Quinones who had a productive outing for the Tigers as he pitched in 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Memphis Tigers had a solid shooting game against the Dayton Flyers as they connected on 28 of their 64 field goal attempts (43.8%), but they were slightly worse from behind the three-point line (38.5%). The Memphis Tigers won the turnover battle against the Dayton Flyers (11-10), and they dominated the Flyers in the rebounding department (44-26).

The Memphis Tigers looked everything like an NCAA Tournament team in the month of March as they went 3-2 with both of their losses coming by one possession against the Houston Cougars, and they had a fairly dominant game against the Dayton Flyers in the NIT opener. The Tigers have prided themselves on the defensive side of the court this season as they are holding their opponents to an average of 62.8 PPG which ranks 21st in the country, and they should hold Derrick Alston Jr. and the Boise State in check. The Tigers will need to continue finding scoring outside of Landers Nolley and DeAndre Williams to win the NIT Tournament, but defense wins championships and it’s hard to see Boise State scoring 85 again. Final Score Prediction, Memphis Tigers win and cover ATS 72-66.
