The opening round of the MEAC tournament will see a matchup between the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks and the North Carolina Central Eagles on Thursday night. Maryland-Eastern Shore finished the regular season three games below .500 after losing three of the last five games played following a four point win over Delaware State.
Da’Shawn Phillip led the way Maryland-Eastern Shore with 16 points on 7-9 shooting in 34 minutes on the floor. Dom London added a second best 14 points and Kevon Voyles added a team high seven points off the bench.
The North Carolina Central Eagles come into the conference tournament after ending the year with a 5 point win over South Carolina State to end a three game losing streak. Defensively North Carolina Central dominated South Carolina State as the Bulldogs shot only 33.9% from the floor and turned the ball over 10 times leading to the loss.
Offensively North Carolina State has three players averaging double figures this season led by Justin Wright scoring a team high 13.7 points per game on 51.5% shooting. Randy Miller Jr. is second on the team with 11.1 points per game and Kris Monroe chips in a third best 10.5 points and a team high 6.1 rebounds.
