On Monday, the Marshall Thundering Herd visit John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia to play the No. 4 ranked Virginia Cavaliers. Marshall fell to 7-5 on the season following a 92-68 loss to Texas A&M last Saturday. The Herd were behind by just eight points at the half, but were outscored by 16 points in the second half. Rondale Watson led Marshall with 19 points while C.J. Burks scored 18.
Virginia improved its perfect record to 11-0 following a 72-40 rout of William & Mary. De’Andre Hunter led the Cavaliers with 18 points while Kyle Guy scored 16. The Cavaliers defense was on display allowing just 17 second half points and the offense had a 17-2 run in the second half to break open the game.
Jon Elmore leads the Thundering Herd in scoring and assists with averages of 19.6 points and 5.0 assists per game. C.J. Burks is second in scoring averaging 18.0 points per game. Jannson Williams leads Marshall in rebounds with an average of 5.0 per game. Marshall is shooting 44.7% from the field and 34.5% from 3-point territory.
De’Andre Hunter is leading in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game. Ty Jerome is the second leading scorer and leader in assists for Virginia with averages of 14.2 points and 4.3 assists per game. Virginia is shooting 46.9% from the field and 38.4% from 3-point territory.
