Marquette vs North Carolina 3/17/22 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

The Marquette Golden Eagles slipped into the big dance as a nine seed and will open the tournament against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Marquette finished the season on a bit of a skid losing five of the last eight games played including an 11 point loss to Creighton on Thursday. Defensively Marquette struggled against Creighton is the Blue Jays made 49.1% of their shots and 41.2% from beyond the arc to score 74 points in 40 minutes.

Darryl Morsell led the way on the offensive side for Marquette scoring a team high 18 points on 7 of 16 shooting in 31 minutes on the floor. Justin Louis added 17 points and seven rebounds as the only other player in double figures and Kam Jones led the way off the bench with eight points in 14 minutes.

The North Carolina Tar Heels coming to the big dance running hot as of late despite a 13 point loss to end the season that ended a six game win streak. Offensively North Carolina struggled in their last game of the season making only 36.7% of their shots and 11.5% from beyond the arc as Virginia Tech rolled to the 13 point win. Big man Armando Bacot led the way for the North Carolina offense against Virginia Tech with 19 points and a team high 14 rebounds. 

Armando Bacot Is the leader of the North Carolina offense averaging 16.5 points per game to go along with 12.5 rebounds as one of four players averaging double figures. Caleb Love is second on the team scoring 15.4 points to go along with a team leading 3.8 assists and Brady Manek chips in a third best 14.4 points. RJ Davis is the 4th Tar Heel averaging double figures with 13.3 points per game. 

North Carolina is playing the better basketball as of late and will carry that momentum into the big dance. Look for North Carolina to overpower Marquette to continue the Golden Eagles struggles. North Carolina is the bigger and deeper team that will do enough in the opening round to get the win and cover. Final Score Prediction, UNC wins and covers 75-67.
