Lafayette at Army 3/5/20 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

The Lafayette Leopards are set to visit Christl Arena in West Point, New York for a Patriot League quarterfinal matchup against the Army Black Knights. The Lafayette Leopards come into this matchup with an 18-11 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the Navy Midshipmen, 62-60. Leading the way for the Lafayette Leopards was freshman forward Leo O’Boyle as he recorded 18 points off the bench. Junior guard E.J. Stephens also had a productive outing off the bench for the Leopards as he pitched in 15 points and 3 rebounds.

The Lafayette Leopards had a good shooting game against the Navy Midshipmen as they connected on 26 of their 56 field goal attempts (46.4%), but they were significantly worse from behind the three-point line (26.3%). The Lafayette Leopards were even with the Navy Midshipmen in the turnover battle (9-9), but they were edged out by the Midshipmen in the rebounding department (37-31).

The Army Black Knights come into this matchup with a 15-14 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Colgate Raiders, 91-65. Leading the way for the Army Black Knights was senior forward Matt Wilson as he recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Tommy Funk had a productive outing for the Black Knights as he pitched in 13 points and 10 assists.

The Army Black Knights had a solid shooting game against the Colgate Raiders as they connected on 26 of their 58 field goal attempts (44.8%), and they were good from behind the three-point line (42.1%). The Army Black Knights lost the turnover battle against the Colgate Raiders (14-10), and they were edged out by the Raiders in the rebounding department (40-29).

The Army Black Knights enjoyed a solid season as they went 10-8 in Patriot League play which claimed the 4th seed for the conference tournament, and they have one of the best scoring duos in the Patriot League. The Black Knights have an experienced roster and that starts with Tommy Funk who is averaging 19.6 PPG and 7.3 APG while Matt Wilson is pitching in 17.9 PPG and 7.8 RPG, and they could be in line for a big game against a Lafayette team that ranks 6th in the conference in points allowed (68.3 PPG). The Lafayette Leopards have struggled to score the basketball as a team this season as they rank 7th in the Patriot League in PPG (68.1), and I don’t think they will find enough scoring on the road to overcome an Army team they only scored 48 points against in February. Final Score Prediction, Army Black Knights win and cover ATS 72-67.
