Incarnate Word vs Texas Picks and Prediction – 11/7/2023

The Incarnate Word Cardinals will be in Austin, TX Monday night for their first game of the 2023 season against the Texas Longhorns. The Cardinals were terrible offensively in their final game of the season a year ago scoring just 64 points on 38.1% shooting and turned the ball over 15 times. Defensively Incarnate Word was dominated after giving up 81 points on 52.5% shooting from the floor.

Trey Miller will be the focal point of the Incarnate Word offense this season as the leading score from a year ago. Miller averaged 10.4 points per game and led the team with 3.1 assists. Davante Dennis will be back this season after averaging 8.3 points per game, while Josh Morgan will join the returners after posting seven points per game a year ago.

The Texas Longhorns open the 2023 season ranked number 18 in the nation looking to improve on their ranking. Texas had a tremendous year in 2022 finishing with 29 wins and nine losses following a seven point loss to Miami in the elite eight. Offensively Texas was fantastic in the final game of the year pouring in 81 points on 50% shooting and 40% from beyond the arc. The Texas defense was the difference as they allowed 88 points on 59.2% shooting from the floor.

Tyrese Hunter was the 4th leading scorer for Texas a year ago but is the offensive leader this season. Texas lost their top three scores from last season and will look to Hunter this year to lead the team. Dylan Disu is also back for Texas this season after averaging 8.8 points per game comment while Dillon Mitchell will return this year looking to improve his 4.3 points per game from a year ago.
