The Hampton Pirates visit NJIT Wellness and Events Center in Newark, New Jersey on Thursday to play the NJIT Highlanders in a CTI quarterfinals matchup. Hampton defeated Charleston Southern on Tuesday 73-67 in the second round. Jermaine Marrow led the Pirates with 20 points, while Kalin Fisher added 14 and Trevond Barnes chipped in with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

NJIT opened the CIT with a 92-81 in over Quinnipiac a week ago Monday. The Highlanders were led by Zach Cooks with 34 points, while Shyquan Gibbs and Diandre Wilson scored 15 points apiece for NJIT. The Highlanders will have had nine days off between games which could prove to be detrimental.
Jermaine Marrow leads Hampton in scoring and assists with averages of 25.3 points and 5.1 assists per game. Greg Heckstall leads the Pirates in rebounds with an average of 6.9 per game. Kalin Fisher with an average of 15.8 points per game is the only other Hampton player averaging double figures in scoring. Hampton is shooting 43.4% from the field and 34.4% from 3-point territory.

Zach Cooks leads the Highlanders in scoring with an average of 17.0 points per game. Abdul Lewis leads NJIT in rebounding with an average of 9.1 per game, while the leader in assists is Cooks with an average of 2.2 per game. NJIT is shooting 44.5% from the field and 34.5% from 3-point territory.

Hampton has played two games in the tournament to just one for NJIT and the Pirates will be more game-ready giving them an early advantage. However, NJIT should recover from any slow start by halftime and then go on to win. The Highlanders have covered the number in 23 of the last 33 versus non-conference opponents.
