Last Updated: 11/30/2020 at 10:17 PM ET

In Tuesday night college basketball action, the Hampton Pirates will open their season on the road against the George Washington Colonials. Veteran head coach Edward “Buck Joyner” had led Hampton to the NCAA Tournament three times in his first 11 seasons on the job. Last year, the Pirates dealt with plenty of injuries and finished with a 15-19 overall mark.

Despite an 8-10 record in Big South Conference play, Hampton defeated Longwood and top-seeded Radford to advance to the conference championship game. The Pirates must improve on a defense that allowed 79.2 points on average a season ago.

The George Washington Colonials are coming off a 12-20 record last season and looking to improve for second year head coach Jamion Christian. In their season opener, George Washington never led during a 78-71 road loss against Navy. The Colonials turned the ball over 16 times and missed 20 of their 29 three-point attempts.

Jamison Battle and James Bishop scored 20 points apiece on a combined 13-for-26 shooting effort. Jameer Nelson Jr. added 18 points and three assists in a losing effort for the Colonials.

Last season, Hampton ranked 348 out of 353 teams nationally in defensive efficiency. George Washington ranked 255th in that category. Take the over on Tuesday. Final Score Prediction, George Washington Colonials win but our best play is on this over total 84-73.
