Grand Canyon dominated their first round matchup over California Baptist shooting 47.1% from the floor and 42.3% beyond the arc to score of 65 points including 35 in the second half leading to the blowout victory. Savion Flagg led all scorers for Sam Houston with 15 points in 31 minutes of action.
Offensively this season Sam Houston has been a mediocre scoring team averaging only 68.9 points per game on 42.7% shooting but have held opponents to 62.8 points per game. Savion Flagg is one of two players in the Sam Houston lineup averaging double figures scoring 18.6 points per game to lead the team, while posting a team high 8.3 rebounds as well. Demarkus Lampley chips in a second best 10.2 points per game despite shooting only 37.2% into the floor.
The Grand Canyon Antelopes come into the conference tournament after finishing the regular season one game behind the conference lead. Grand Canyon is on a four game win streak following a 17 point win over Dixie State that ended the regular season. The Antelopes beat Dixie State 70-53 after holding the Trail Blazers to 33.3% from the floor and forest 17 turnovers in the victory.
Holland Woods was the leading scorer for Grand Canyon with 13 points and a team high 7 assists in 34 minutes on the floor. Sean Miller-Moore added 12 points and nine rebounds as the only other starter in double figures, while Yvan Ouerdraogo edit eight points and a team high 14 rebounds.
