On Sunday, the Georgetown Hoyas visit Madison Square Garden in New York City to play the St. John’s Red Storm. Georgetown fell to 12-7 on the season following its 91-87 loss to Creighton on Monday. The Hoyas were led by Jessie Govan in the loss with 22 points and 12 boards, while James Akinjo handed out 11 assists. All six Big East Conference games for Georgetown have been decided by six or fewer points.
St. John’s fell to 15-4 on the season following its 80-71 loss to Butler last Saturday. The Red Storm were led by Mustapha Heron and Shamorie Ponds with 20 points apiece while Marvin Clark II scored 10. The Red Storm led in the very early part of the game, but trailed for the remainder.
Jessie Govan leads the Hoyas in scoring and rebounding with averages of 19.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. James Akinjo is the assists leader with an average of 5.3 per game. Georgetown is shooting 45.6% from the field and 36.9% from 3-point territory.
Shamorie Ponds leads St. John’s in scoring and assists with averages of 20.6 points and 5.7 assists per game. Four other players for the Red Storm are averaging double figures in scoring. LJ Figueroa leads the team in rebounding with an average of 6.9 per game. St. John’s is shooting 47.8% from the field and 39.0% from 3-point territory.
