The No. 15 ranked Florida Gators visit Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut on Sunday to play the UConn Huskies. The Gators bounced back well from a loss and improved to 2-1 with a 66-60 victory over Towson Thursday. Scottie Lewis started for the first time and the freshman came through with a team-high 15 points as the Gators narrowly escaped an upset at the hands of the Tigers.

Kerry Blackshear Jr. leads the Gators in scoring and rebounding with averages of 14.3 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. Andrew Nembhard is the leader in assists with an average of 5.3 per game. Keyontae Johnson is the second leading scorer with an average of 11.3 per game. Just Blackshear Jr. and Johnson are averaging double figures in scoring for the Gators.

UConn fell to 1-1 on the season following its 96-87 loss at home to St. Joseph’s. The Huskies fell behind 54-38 at the half and battled back to make a game of it in the second half but fell short. Christian Vital led the Huskies in the loss with 26 points, while Alterique Gilbert scored 22. Behind a 21-4 run in the second half, the Huskies pulled to within four points but got no closer.

Christian Vital is the leading scoring and leading rebounder for UConn with averages of 21.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Alterique Gilbert is the second leading scorer and the leader in assists with averages of 14.0 points and 3.5 assists per game. Four players for the Huskies are averaging double figures in scoring.
