The Elon Phoenix will be in Washington, DC Sunday afternoon for a CAA Conference Tournament first round matchup against the UNCW Seahawks. Elon comes into the conference tournament with only ten wins in 31 games played riding a two game win streak after a 13 point win over Northeastern. Defensively Elon dominated Northeastern holding the Huskies to 34.5% shooting and forced 12 turnovers to pick up the win.
The Elon offense shot the ball well against Northeastern converting on 42.4% of their shots and 33.3% from beyond the arc to score 30 + points in each half. Hunter McIntosh carried the Elon offense scoring 21 points on 8 of 17 shooting in 38 minutes on the floor. Darius Burford added a second best 15 points in 22 minutes on the floor.
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks come into the conference tournament as one of the top teams in the conference riding a three game win streak after a 69-62 win over Delaware to end the season. Shykeim Phillips carried the UNCW offense posting a team high 16 points in 37 minutes. Jaylen Sims and James Baker chipped in 12 points each.
Offensively this season UNC Wilmington has averaged 71.1 points per game on 41.8% shooting as a team. Jaylen Sims leads the Seahawks offense as one of three players averaging double figures scoring 15.7 points per game to go along with a team high 2.3 assists. Mike Okauru is second on the team averaging 12.8 points and Shykeim Phillips chips in a third best 11.3.
