Denver at South Dakota State 2/14/20 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

The Denver Pioneers hit the road for a clash with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.  The Pioneers are (5-20), coming off a 70-63 home loss to Purdue Fort Wayne.  The Jackrabbits are (18-8), after beating Omaha at home, 81-64.

In the Pioneers loss to Purdue Fort Wayne, Denver was led throughout the game by Jase Townsend.  Townsend collected 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Denver connected on 44% from the floor and 35% from distance.  The Pioneers out rebounded Purdue Fort Wayne, 39 to 33.  Denver allowed Purdue Fort Wayne to connect 10 times from deep and out scored Denver from the perimeter, 30 to 21. The Pioneers committed 17 turnovers in the loss. 

Townsend leads the Pioneers with with 17.9 points per contest, while pulling down 5.4 rebounds per night.  Ade Murkey is the only other Pioneer averaging over double digits per game.  Murkey is contributing 16.4 points per game, while dishing out just over 2 assists per contest. 

In the Jackrabbits win over Omaha, South Dakota State was guided offensively by Douglas Wilson.  Wilson recorded 24 points, 8 rebounds, while swatting 5 shots on defense.  South Dakota State converted on 52% from the floor and 47% from 3-point distance.  The Jackrabbits played well on defense, holding Omaha to just 37% from the floor.  South Dakota State made it tough around the rim for Omaha, as the Jackrabbits collected 8 blocked shots.

Wilson is leading the way this season for the Jackrabbits, averaging just below 18 points per contest.  Matt Dentlinger and Noah Freidel are the only other players averaging double figures for South Dakota State, registering 11.8 and 10.0 respectively.   

The Pioneers have lost 5 in a row and 9 of their last 10.  The Jackrabbits have gone the opposite direction, having won 9 of their last 10.  Denver has yet to win a road game, as the Pioneers are 0-11 on the road.  It will not get any easier for Denver, as South Dakota State is 12-0 at home.  The Pioneers have been horrendous on defense on the road, giving up an average of over 79 per contest, which ranks 315th in scoring defense.  The Jackrabbits are averaging just below 82 points per night at home, that ranks 39th in offensive production for home teams.  Denver is only registering over 65 points of offense on the road.  South Dakota State should have their way in this one, while Denver will struggle to keep up with the pace of the Jackrabbits.  Final score prediction, South Dakota State will win and cover, 84-67.
