Atlantic 10 2020-21 - College Basketball Preview

The Atlantic 10 is very disappointed in the way the season ended last year. Dayton had a good chance to win it all, but with the cancellation of the tournament it Is only left to imagine where Dayton would have finished. Now, the Atlantic 10 has some teams that could fill the shoes of Dayton, but will they be nearly as good?

Richmond is the hope of the Atlantic 10 this year. The Spiders are bringing back all of their starters from the team last season. The only chink in their armor this year is the Spiders are not big on the glass and can be dominated on the boards and that could lead to them having some issues against bigger teams.

Saint Louis is bringing home some of the better players in the A10, However, a big issue that can hurt the Billikensis the fact that they are not good from the line. This could lead to teams fouling them later in the game and Saint Louis is unable to make the shots and allow the opponent to catch up.

The Bonnies have a good offense which will help them show up in the games. However,  problem the Bonnies will need to cope with is going to be the defense that will struggle to keep the opponents at bay.

Obi Toppin moving on to th NBA will hurt the Flyers and their chance of winning, but the Flyers do have Jalen Crutcher coming back. Crutcher is good, but will not play well enough to completely carry the Flyers like expected.

The Dukes are one team that could have a good run with 4 double digit scorers coming back. However, if Duquesne falls way behind in the games the Dukes are unable to make up the difference in the games as they are horrible behind the line.

Rhode Island is one team that could go either way. The Rams have played well enough in the past to be a threat, but have to replace 3 players off of last years team. The Rhode Island team is bringing back Fatts this season, but he alone cannot carry a team.

Davidson is one team that should finish in the middle of the pack. The Wildcats are missing some talent this year with coronavirus restrictions on international players, but the Wildcats do bring back Kellan Grady and Luke Brajkovic

George Washington can only go up this year. The Colonials are bringing in Jamion Christian and he is a marked improvement. The downside is George Washington in the past has dug themselves really deep in a talent hole and it will continue to be an issue.

The Minutemen have potential with Tre Mitchell coming here as a top rated star potential. The downside is outside of the incoming talent the Minutemen do not have anything really going on for the team.

George Mason has shocked in the past and it would have to come again this year. The Patriots have not really recruited a lot of incoming talent and that can make it harder for them to win. Not to mention the Patriots did lose some players to transfer.

VCU is the other Rams team in the A-10 this year, but will have a lot of issues on this season. The VCU team is missing almost all of their starters from last year and that makes it hard to be seen as a threat.

La Salle has to make up a lot of ground this year. The Exploreres are starting to get the talent coming in under Ashley Howard’s recruiting, but it will be difficult for him to really keep it moving as the talent is not coming up.

Saint Joseph is one team that is looking bad before the season even starts. The Hawks won only 6 games last year and did not make much in the way of movement to improve on the year and it will make it harder for the Hawks to recruit much in the way of talent going forward.

Fordham has injury issues coming to the season here. Now, the Fordham club is also going to be have a coach on the hot seat and that will be a lot of pressure for him to overcome and nearly impossible for them to overcome.
