Arkansas at LSU 1/13/21 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

The Arkansas Razorbacks travel on the road to Pete Maravich Assembly Center to take on the LSU Tigers. Arkansas snapped a two-game losing streak with a home win over Georiga, Arkansas scored 99 points and beat the Bulldogs by 30 to improve to 10-2 on the year. LSU has won two in a row beating Georgia at home and the latter a 75-61 win over Ole Miss to improve to 8-2 on the year.

Arkansas is potent on the offensive end averaging 88.2 points per game, ranking 9th in the country in scoring offense. The Razorbacks are shooting 46.2% from the field and aren’t afraid to take the three taking 27.2 per game, the 31st most, and are making 35.6% of them. With just 15.3% of their scoring returning the emergence of freshman Moses Moody has been huge.

Moody is averaging 16.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, leading the team and coming in second in rebounding with 5.6 per game. Moody is shooting 40% from beyond the arc on 5 attempts per game. Junior guard JD Notae is second on the team in scoring with 15.4 points and is shooting 42.3% from the field on the year.

LSU is also a great offensive team averaging 85.6 points per game ranking 14th in the country, the Tigers are shooting 49.1% from the field the 31st best field goal percentage in the nation. LSU too has a freshman that has emerged as a dominant force with Cameron Thomas, he leads the team in scoring with 22.3 on 43.6% shooting.

Sophomore forward Trendon Watford is back after making the SEC All-Freshman team last season, he’s improved his shooting numbers and is averaging 17.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Watford shot just 31% from three last season but has improved that to 45% on the year. LSU comes in at 5th in KenPom adjusted offense.

Arkansas has been solid defensively this season allowing 67.2 points per game ranking 115th in the country, the Razorbacks are holding opponents to 39.4% from the field the 43rd best defensive field goal shooting percentage. The Razorbacks are 42nd in KenPom adjusted defense. LSU is allowing 70 points per game ranking 179th in scoring defense, opponents have shot 41.1% from the field and the Tigers are 109th in KenPom adjusted defense.

These two teams are as evenly matched as they come at 24th and 25th in the KenPom, actually, they are dead tied in those rankings. Arkansas is coming off a dominant performance over Georiga and keeps that going with another solid offensive effort against the Tigers. With how evenly matched these teams are, I like the underdog and team that has performed better against the spread all season. Final score prediction, Arkansas wins and covers ATS 81-78.
