Appalachian State vs Marshall Prediction

Appalachian State looks to snap a two-game skid as they visit Marshall in a Sun Belt matchup. The Mountaineers (17-12, 10-7) are coming off a tough 61-59 loss to Georgia Southern, the second loss in three games. Marshall (18-12, 11-6) is riding a three-game winning streak, most recently taking down Old Dominion 83-66. The Thundering Herd already beat Appalachian State 69-59 just a few days ago and will try to sweep the season series at home. Slam dunk your bets with our College Basketball picks.

Appalachian State has struggled with consistency lately, dropping three of its last four, including a home loss to Marshall. Offensively, the Mountaineers average 68.6 points per game while shooting 44.2% from the field. Myles Tate leads the team with 16.4 points and 5.6 assists per game, while CJ Huntley provides a strong presence inside with 7.8 rebounds per contest.

Defensively, Appalachian State has been solid, allowing just 63.2 points per game, but they’ll need to be sharper against a Marshall team that pushes the tempo. The Mountaineers average 5.6 steals and 3.7 blocks per game, led by Tate with 2.0 steals and Luke Wilson with 1.1 blocks. They must limit turnovers and control the glass to keep this one competitive.

Marshall enters the game in strong form, winning three straight and scoring at least 69 points in each of those victories. The Thundering Herd put up 75.7 points per game while shooting 44.7% from the field. Obinna Anochili-Killen leads the team with 14.1 points per game on 56.8% shooting, and Dezayne Mingo runs the offense with 5.1 assists per contest. They have proven they can handle Appalachian State, winning by 10 points on the road last week.

Defensively, Marshall has struggled at times, allowing 71.9 points per game, but the ability to force turnovers and protect the rim has helped them stay ahead in games. They average 6.8 steals and 5.2 blocks per game, with Anochili-Killen being a dominant interior presence, swatting away 3.0 shots per contest. Controlling the tempo and forcing Appalachian State into tough shots will be key to securing another win at home.

Appalachian State vs Marshall Pick Analysis

Marshall has the offensive advantage and already proved they can handle Appalachian State, winning comfortably on the road last week. The Mountaineers’ defense has been solid, but they’ve struggled to score efficiently, which is a major concern against a team that can push the pace. Anochili-Killen’s rim protection and Mingo’s playmaking should give the Thundering Herd the edge at home. Final Score Prediction: Marshall wins and covers 74-66
