The Akron Zips visit Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada on Saturday to play the No. 6 ranked Nevada Wolf Pack. The Zips improved to 7-4 on the season with a 82-60 win over Tennessee State on Tuesday. Loren Crist Johnson led the Zips with 23 points, while Jimond Ivey scored 19 and Daniel Utomi added 18.
Nevada remained perfect on the season at 11-0 following a 72-68 victory thanks to a big second half comeback by the Wolf Pack. Jordan Caroline led Nevada with 21 points. The Wolf Pack did most of its damage from long range hitting 22 of its first 28 taken beyond the 3-point line and 66% of Nevada’s field goal attempts were 3-pointers.
Daniel Utomi leads Akron in scoring with an average of 15.9 points per game. Jimond Ivey is the third leading scorer with an average of 13.2 points and the leading rebounder with an average of 7.1 per game. Loren Christian Jackson leads in assists with an average of 4.3 per game. As a team, Akron is shooting 44.7% from the field and 34.4% from 3-point territory.
Caleb Martin leads Nevada in scoring with an average of 18.8 points per game. Jordan Caroline is second in scoring and the leading rebounder with averages of 18.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Cody Martin leads the Wolf Pack in assists with an average of 5.9 per game. Nevada is shooting 47.1% from the field and 34.3% from 3-point territory.
