The championship game of the WAC tournament will go down Saturday night in Las Vegas, NV as the Abilene Christian Wildcats take on the New Mexico State Aggies. Abilene Christian made it to the tournament championship riding five game win streak after a two point victory Friday night over Seattle. Offensively Abilene did just enough making 38.3% of their shots to score 78 points in the game including 50 in the second half.
Airion Simmons was the motor in the Abilene Christian offense with 21 points and eight rebounds to lead the way. Tobias Cameron posted a second best 18 points and Mahki Morris chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds. Damien Daniels added a team high 10 points off the bench.
The Mexico State Aggies finished the regular season tied for the top spot and will look to close the year with a tournament championship. New Mexico State is riding a two game winning streak after a five point win over Grand Canyon to get into the finals. Teddy Allen led the way for the New Mexico State offense scoring 25 points in 40 minutes. Sir’Jabari Rice added 21 points and Mario McKinney Jr. scored seven points off the bench.
Offensively this season New Mexico State has two players averaging double figures as Teddy Allen leads the team scoring 19.5 points per game to go along with a team high 6.9 rebounds. Sir’Jabari Rice is second on the team scoring 12 points per game and leads the way with 3.3 assists per game, while Johnny McCants chips in a third best 8.7 points.
