Churchill Downs 5/3/22 - Horse Racing Picks & Predictions

Louisville has changed quite a bit since Churchill Downs opened in 1865. Still, Churchill Downs will play host to the longest sporting event in America this week and as a warmup on Tuesday the track host 9 races.

The first race is a 1 1/16M run with a 50,000 dollar purse on dirt. The favorite in the race is Dounvegan Doll at 5/2 odds. One horse to really consider is Earley Rose who is coming in at 3/1 odds, but finished 16/52 in the last workout. Race 1 Prediction: Earley Rose.

The second race of the day is a 1 1/2M race with a 160,000 dollar purse. Coming in at 3/5 odds, though, is Lone Rock as the favorite. Still in this race look for a boxed trifecta or even a regular trifecta. Race 2 Prediction, Boxed Trifecta with Lone Rock, Current, and Tenfold.

Race number 3 is coming in with a 50,000 dollar purse and aid a 6 1/2 furlong run on dirt. The favorite is Supertaleofhoudini at 3/1 odds. Still one horse that stands out with a good jockey on the horse is Bertrada who is coming in at 9/2 odds. Race 3 Prediction: Bertrada.

A 7 furlong race on dirt is what brings in the 4th race with a 75,000 purse. Regal Retort is coming in as the favorite at 8/5 odds. The best bet will actually be the 8/5 Regal Retort, but the Dance Rhythms would be a good show bet here. Race 4 Pick: Dance Rhythms for Show.

Race 5 is coming in at a 1M run and has a big 127,000 dollar purse. The favorite in the race is Breaker of Chains at 2/1 odds. With a lot of long shots in the race it could be a good trifecta pick on the favorites here, but use a box because the favorites can run away with it. Race 5 Pick: Boxed Trifecta With Flirting Bridge, Breaker of Chains and Millefeuille.

Race 6 is a 6 furlong run on dirt with a 50,000 dollar purse. The favorite in the race is Baby Quinn at 5/2 odds. Still look Teo to be a winner in this race with Joel Rosario guiding the horse and Steve Asmussen training. Race 6 Pick: Teo.

In the 7th race it is a 1 1/4M dirt run with a 120,000 dollar purse. The favorite, but just a little bit is Pioneering Spirit at 3/1 odds. Still a strong contender is Deputy Connect the one downside is Deputy Connect has not had good workouts recently finishing 24/43 in the last workout, but even then has finished strong. Race 7 Pick: Deputy Connect.

The 8th race of the day is a 5 1/2 furlong race with a 134,000 dollar purse. Bad Beat Brian is the favorite at 3/1 odds. Still one horse that is a long shot and could be a good bid is Coltonator who is at 12/1 odds, but has a good jockey in Luis Saez riding. Race 8 Pick: Coltonator.

The ninth race of the day has a 52,000 dollar purse with a 1 1/16M run. Aura is coming in at 3/1 odds as the favorite in the race here and with a strong trainer in Asmussen it is easy to see why. Race 9 Pick: Exacta on Aura.
