Last Updated: 11/03/2022 at 11:52 AM ET
On Friday November 4, Day 1 of the 2022 Breeders' Cup will be run at Keeneland and will highlight the upcoming stars of horse racing. Friday's card is known as the Future Stars Friday, which includes five races and purse money totaling $7 million. Two of the races have a purse of $2 million each and the other three have a purse of $1 million each.
The opening race on the card will be the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint of 5 1/2 furlongs. American Apple Is coming off a win at the Matron Stakes last month as a long shot at 47-to-1. Nagirroc was a winner at Belmont in a futurity for $150,000 at six furlongs. However, Nagirroc will have only 5 ½ furlongs to work with on Friday. Private Creed has career earnings of more than $500,000 and in October was victorious on the Keeneland turf.
Platinum Queen has career earnings of over $400,000 in just seven starts and must be respected by the rest of the entries. Speed Boat Beach established a new track record at Del Mar on the dirt and was a winner on turf in two career outings. Speed Boat Beach will be moving up in class but has a Beyer speed figure of 104, which is tied for the best in 2 year olds.
The Beyer speed figure is based upon the time a horse races compared to the record for the track that the horse ran on and the racing surface amongst other factors. A Beyer number of more than 100 merits respect from competitors. Platinum Queen and Private Creed look on paper to be the ones to beat in this first race of the day, but Speed Boat Beach’s Beyer figure must be respected.
Private Creed is trained by Steve Asmussen, has over $500,000 in career earnings and on the turf here at Keeneland last month was victorious. Platinum Queen, who is the 7-to-2 morning line favorite, is expected to push Private Creed down the homestretch but will fall short to the filly in the end. Not to be overlooked is speedboat Beach at 6-to-1, who has an impressive Beyer speed number of 104, which merits respect. Winner: Private Creed 12-to-1.
