Blue Grass Stakes 2018 - Free Handicapping Picks

Good Magic, the juvenile champion of the Breeders Cup who was third in his last race, arrives at Keeneland as the 2 to 1 favorite for the Saturday April 7 running of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes and will come out of the No. 11 post position.

The colt, trained by Chad Brown will race against a full 13-horse field of other hopefuls for the Kentucky Derby. Following the post draw on Tuesday, Brown said the post was slightly disappointing but Good Magic was training well.

Good Magic ran a disappointing race in the G2 Fountain of Youth Stakes in his last time out at Gulfstream Park March 3, resulting in third place, which was his only race since his November 4 win at Del Mar in the Breeder’s Cup.

Son of Curlin, Good Magic was purchased for $1 million and comes with high expectations to match his expensive price tag.

Racing pundits have said any race that has 14 horses will be competitive and a strong betting race. With favorite Good Magic at 2 to 1 and not a heavy favorite, this should make for a good race with a quality field.

The other entrants include Zing Zang, Sporting Chance, California Night, Kanthaka, Blended Citizen, Gotta Go, Tiz Mischief, Machismo, and Arawak.

Draw a line though last race for Marconi as the Fountain of Youth slow start and wide trip gave this colt little chance. Still Red HOT trainer Todd Pletcher has spoke up with confidence bringing Marconi to the Blue Grass Stakes. Love Marconi to out run his odds and well worth a swing to beat vulnerable favorites.
