The 151st Belmont Stakes is the final leg of the Triple Crown and will run Saturday June 8 at Belmont Park. The race is a 1 ½ miles or 12 furloughs making it the longest of the three races in the famed Triple Crown. Post time is 6:37 p.m. EST. Ten horses will compete including War of Will the winner of the Preakness Stakes and Tacitus who was third in the Kentucky Derby.
Tacitus is the favorite at 9 to 5 and will leave from the No. 10 gate with Jose Ortiz in the irons. A son of Tapit has won three of the past five Belmont’s and Tacitus used his styling of grinding from start to finish to place third in the Kentucky Derby and with an additional quarter of mile Saturday at Belmont, many believe Tacitus’ chances of ending up in the winner’s circle are good.
If War of Will wins, he will be just the 12th 3-year old to lose the Run for the Roses but win the Preakness and Belmont. War of Will drew the No. 9 post and is currently 2 to 1 to come home a winner. Tyler Gaffalione will be abroad the thoroughbred. In two losses on dirt War of Will suffered a slight injury in the Louisiana Derby and an interference in this year’s Kentucky Derby, both legitimate reasons to come up short.
Master Fencer has the third best odds at 8 to 1. Master Fencer will leave from the No. 3 gate with Julien Leparoux aboard. Running up the rail in the Kentucky Derby, Master Fencer passed all but six in the Kentucky Derby with long odds. The remaining seven thoroughbreds are Intrepid Heart at 10 to 1, Everfast at 12 to 1, Bourbon War at 12 to 1, Sir Winston at 12 to 1, Tax at 15 to 1, Spinoff at 15 to 1 and Joevia at 30 to 1.
Hard to get around the Preakness winning horse War of Will and even with this low price think we have to bet at low odds. Think the better way to make money in this years Belmont Stakes is to play the Trifecta and Superfecta.
