2023 Kentucky Derby Field - Two Phil's

The 149th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place at Churchill Downs on Saturday May 6. The most talented 3-year-old thoroughbreds in the country will leave the gate at 6:57 pm. The field is expected to be very strong and will be a battle throughout the 1 ¼-mile event. More than 150,000 spectators will be on hand, while millions more are expected to watch across the globe. 

Two Phil’s will leave from Gate 3 on Saturday. The thoroughbred currently has odds of 12-1 and is trained by Larry Rivelli.  Two Phil's arrives at the Kentucky Derby off a victory at the Jeff Ruby Steaks, which is a Grade 3 event. Jareth Loveberry will be on board Two Phil’s for the Derby and the thoroughbred is 4-1-1 in eight career starts. Two Phil’s won by more than five lengths when victorious last March at Turfway Park.

In the victory in the Jeff Ruby Steaks, Two Phil’s posted a Beyer Speed Figure of 101, which is the highest of any thoroughbred in the field on Saturday. However, the Jeff Ruby is run on Tapeta surface and not on dirt. Two Phil's has been victorious previously at Churchill downs, winning the Street Sense, which was contested last October and is a Grade 3 event. Over his last five races, all graded events, Two Phil's is 2-1-1.
