2023 Kentucky Derby Field - Tapit Trice

The 149th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place at Churchill Downs on Saturday May 6. The most talented 3-year-old thoroughbreds in the country will leave the gate on Saturday afternoon. The field is expected to be very strong and will be a battle throughout the 1 ¼-mile event. More than 150,000 spectators will be on hand, while millions more are expected to watch across the globe.
Tapit Trice will leave from the fifth post position, is trained by Todd Pletcher and is second in odds at 5-1. Tapit Trice is a gray 3-year-old colt that is powerful, who has emerged over the last two months. Trice debuted in the Tampa Bay Derby, a Group 3 event this past March, with a win and was able to overcome a wide trip to win my neck over Verifying ub the Blue Grass Stake, which is a Grade 1 event. Those two victories confirmed Tapit Trice as a legitimate contender to win the Derby.
Tapit Trice will be Pletcher’s second horse in the Derby after Forte, but has won four consecutive races with strong closing trips. In the Blue Grass, Trice was victorious by a head and ran a 99 BSF. Trice has been victorious at four different race tracks in races that range from 1 mile to a mile and an ⅛. Luis Saez will be on board Tapit Trice.
