2023 Kentucky Derby Field - Practical Move

The 149th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place at Churchill Downs on Saturday May 6. The most talented 3-year-old thoroughbreds in the country will leave the gate on Saturday afternoon. The field is expected to be very strong and will be a battle throughout the 1 ¼-mile event. More than 150,000 spectators will be on hand, while millions more are expected to watch across the globe.

Practical Move, the Tim Yakteen trained thoroughbred is currently 10-1. Practical Move currently has the fourth best odds to win on Saturday. The colt is unbeaten and has built momentum leading up to the Run for the Roses. He was victorious in the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity during December and followed that with a victory in March at the San Felipe Stakes which was also a Grade 2 event. He continued his success by winning the Santa Anita Derby on April 8, which was a Grade 1 race.

Practical Move was able to hold off tSkinner and Mandarin Hero to win at Santa Anita. Practical move has been trained his entire career by Yakteen unlike many horses that are transferred into Yakteen’s barn in an attempt to become qualified for the Kentucky Derby. Each of Practical Move’s last three victories have all been stalking trips. Practical Move will be written by Ramon Vasquez.
