2023 Kentucky Derby Field - Hit Show

The 149th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place at Churchill Downs on Saturday May 6. The most talented 3-year-old thoroughbreds in the country will leave the gate at 6:57 pm. The field is expected to be very strong and will be a battle throughout the 1 ¼-mile event. More than 150,000 spectators will be on hand, while millions more are expected to watch across the globe.

Hit Show is trained by Brad Cox and will leave from Gate 1, while currently having odds of 30-1. Hit Show arrives at the Kentucky Derby off a runner-up finish at the Grade 2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 8. Trainer Cox will be looking for his second victory in six tries at the Derby, while jockey Manny Franco will be looking for his first victory in the Run for the Roses in five tries. Franco finished second on board Tiz the Law in the 2020 Derby.

Hit Show was victorious at the Withers, which is a Grade 3 event, on February 11. Following that win, Hit Show was defeated by a nose in the Wood Memorial by Lord Miles. In five starts, Hit Show is 3-1-0 and his only off the board finish came at Churchill Downs, his only race at the track, when finishing fourth in an allowance optional claiming race on November 26th of last year.
