2023 Kentucky Derby Field - Confidence Game

The 149th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place at Churchill Downs on Saturday May 6. The most talented 3-year-old thoroughbreds in the country will leave the gate at 6:57 pm. The field is expected to be very strong and will be a battle throughout the 1 ¼-mile event. More than 150,000 spectators will be on hand, while millions more are expected to watch across the globe. 

Confidence Game will leave from Gate 4 on Saturday and is trained by Keith Desormeaux. The thoroughbred currently has odds of 20-1. Confidence Game arrives at the Kentucky Derby off a victory in the Rebel, which is a Grade 2 event and held February 25th at Oaklawn Park. James Graham will be on board Confidence Game and is 0 for 2 at the Derby, while trainer Desormeaux has not won the Derby in three attempts. 

Confidence Game has not raced in 10 weeks and was originally scheduled to race in the Lexington on April 15th but Desormeaux opted not to enter the thoroughbred. Dating back to 1929, the longest layoff for any winner in the Kentucky Derby was only seven weeks. Confidence Game will be racing for the fifth time at Churchill Downs and is 2-0-1 in his previous four appearances.
