2022 Kentucky Derby Field - Summer Is Tomorrow

Last Updated: 05/04/2022 at 8:26 PM ET

Summer Is Tomorrow will be ridden by Mikael Barzalona and is Bhupat Seemar trained. Summer Is Tomorrow will leave from the fourth gate and currently has odds of 30-1. In seven career starts, the thoroughbred has two wins and three seconds. Summer Is Tomorrow has $267,606 in career earnings. The thoroughbred is based in Dubai, but is Kentucky-bred.

It is expected by post time that this thoroughbred could be the field’s longest shot at the Derby. Summer Is Tomorrow arrived in Louisville, Kentucky off a second-place finish at the UAE Derby, which is 1 3/16 miles. The colt took an early lead in the race and held that until the back stretch before running out of gas over the final 100 yards and being caught by Crown Pride.

Before the UAE Derby, Summer Is Tomorrow had two victories in his first six starts, all of which were at seven furlings or less. Summer Is Tomorrow has very little in his resume to suggest a competitive outcome on Saturday other than being one of the early leaders setting the pace over the first six or seven furlongs of the race.

This will be the first Kentucky Derby appearance for the owners of Summer Is Tomorrow as well as jockey Mikael Barzalona. With the colt expected to be one of the longshots, a small wager is often placed by many bettors just in case the thoroughbred has the race of his life and surprises the field, as did Donerail in 1913 when winning the Derby as a 91-1 longshot.
