The Open Championship 2022 - Golf Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 07/12/2022 at 10:10 AM ET

The fourth and final major, The Open Championship, will tee off this Thursday on the Old Course at St. Andrews. This will be the 150th edition of the The Open and is the 30 time that the tournament has been hosted by St Andrews. This year's field consists of 156 golfers that will be trimmed to the top 70 plus ties after Friday's second round.

The Old Course at St. Andrews is a par-72 that is 7,313 yards. This course is not what is considered a traditional layout for a par 72 as there are only two par 3s and a pair of par 5s. The fairways are extremely wide and firm which will make for very long drives. The course consists of 110 bunkers and over-sized greens that make for big targets. Bentgrass and fescue will make up the fairways while native grasses will make up the rough. The greens are fescue based with poa annua and bentgrass.

Tiger Woods is in this week's field after missing out on the US Open. Woods is a long shot in this week's tournament at 50-1. The favorite is Rory McIlroy at 9-1 and Jon Rahm has the second best odds at 14-1. Scottie Scheffler has the third best odds at 15-1. Scheffler earned his first major by winning the Masters in April and has won three other tournaments this season.
