This week the PGA Tour heads to just north of the Minneapolis/St. Paul for the 3M Open to be played at TPC Twin Cities July 23-26. This is the regularly scheduled date for the tournament and the field includes 10 of the top 60 ranked players in the world. Included in the field are Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau, and Paul Casey among others. Scott Piercy, Matthew Wolff, Bryson Dechambeau and Lucas Glover all shot the tournament’s lowest round last year of 62. DeChambeau is not taking part in the tournament this year.
This is the weakest field related to ranked players since the tour restarted in the middle of June following the covid-19 outbreak. Dustin Johnson and Tony Finau are the co-favorites at +1200, while Brooks Koepka is third at +1400. Due to Johnson's high-ranking in the world at No. 4 overall he is one of the favorites even though he missed the cut this past weekend at the Memorial Tournament. Tommy Fleetwood is returning for the first time to the PGA Tour since the restart in June. Last year's 3M Open winner Matthew Wolff was a +12500 longshot and this season is +3300 to repeat.
The TPC Twin Cities is a 7,481-yard par 71 with Bentgrass Fairways and bluegrass/fescue in the rough and Bentgrass on the greens. Former great Arnold Palmer designed TPC Twin Cities and the course includes narrow fairways, 72 bunkers and 27 water hazards, of which 10 come into play off the tee.
