The most important event in U.S. golf tees off on Thursday September 17th as the 2020 US Open will be played at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York. The US Open is the second major of 2020 coming after the PGA Championship and prior to The Masters. The field includes the world's top-ranked players including Rory McElroy, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, and not to be forgotten veteran and 15 Majors winner Tiger Woods amongst others.
Wingfoot is a very long 7.469-yard par 70 and features Poa Annua greens that often play differently on this Coast compared to those on the West Coast. The greens are expected to be exceptionally fast and are very undulating. If that's not enough, the rough will be long, thick and unforgiving. The combination of a long course, thick rough and tough greens to read will create one of the most difficult US Open’s in the last decade.
One of the most important aspects of a golfer's game when playing at Winged Foot will be the ability to hit greens in regulation and total strokes gained in this particular statistical category is led by Dustin Johnson, Scott and Joe Rahm. While birdies will be at a premium, avoiding bogey’s is a must. Xander Schauffele is leading that statistical category followed by Jon Rahm and Paul Casey.

Xander Schauffele is not the favorite to win at Winged Foot this week but will surprise many. Schauffele finished tied for 10th at TPC Harding Park in the PGA Championship, which was the sixth finish in the top 10 in 12 major championships thus far in his professional golf career. Schauffele has no noticeable flaws from tee to green and is playing at the top of his game heading into this second major of the year. Final Pick, Xander Schauffele 18-1.
