East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia will host the 2020 TOUR Championship that tees off on Thursday. The final event of the FedEx Cup playoffs will have a $15 million prize for the winner and includes a field of just 30 players with no cut on Friday. Golfers that reach the TOUR Championship automatically qualify for three of the four majors as well as the WGC Mexico Championship and some invitationals. Dustin Johnson is favored heading into the event as the current leader in the playoff standings, but Jon Rahm is coming off a win in the BMW Championship and could make it two straight with a victory this week.
The TOUR Championship has a unique strokes-based system known as the FedEx Cup Starting Strokes. The points leader for the FedEx Cup following the first two events begins at -10, while the number two player is at -8, and the third at -7. The player that ends up with the lowest aggregate score over the 72 holes played between Thursday and Sunday when combined with the FedEx Cup Starting Strokes wins the TOUR Championship and becomes the FedEx Cup champion.
East Lake Golf Club opened in 1904 and was designed by Tom Bendelow and later remodeled by Donald Ross followed by Rees Jones in 1994. The course is a 7,319-yard par 70. Each of the TOUR Championships have been played at this course since 2005. The undulating greens will be the most difficult the golfers have faced in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
