2020 Safeway Open - PGA Picks, Odds and Betting Predictions

Last Updated: 09/08/2020 at 6:21 PM ET

The Safeway Open, which will be played in Napa, California, tees off on Thursday with very few of the world's top-ranked players. The biggest reason for the absence of the best players in the world is that the U.S. Open was rescheduled for next week at Winged Foot, which is on the opposite side of the country from where the Safeway will be played in California at the Silverado Resort and Spa North Course.

Most of the top pros on the PGA Tour will take this week off following the difficult FedEx Cup playoffs that concluded with the TOUR Championship this past weekend that saw Dustin Johnson walk away with the FedEx Cup title and $15 million. Notable players who will appear this week at the Safeway Open include Shane Lowry, Jordan Spieth, Sergio Garcia, Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson. Defending Champion Cameron Champ will not return to defend his title.

The Silverado Resort and Spa North Course is a 7,166-yard par 72 with Fairways of Bermuda grass and Poa Annua and roughs of Bluegrass and ryegrass. tThe greens are made up of Bentgrass and Poa annua. The course is known for its water hazards including ponds and streams, deep rough and undulating and fast greens making driving accuracy important.

Brendan Steele (+2600) has two victories at the Safeway Open and has also finished tied for 17th and 21st at this course. Steele has survived the cut in each of the last six events and with a field of very few top golfers in the world rankings wins this week in Napa. Final Pick, Brendan Steele +2600
