This is where things get a lot more interesting. On paper, Team Liquid is absolutely the favorite. There’s no doubt about it. Still, they’re far from consistent, and they also have very distinct weaknesses that could, potentially, be exploited. Their loss to FlyQuest wasn’t a fluke — they simply lost to a team that was better, more in-sync, and more aggressive. Team SoloMid aren’t as potent or proactive as FlyQuest, but when they start off well they’re every bit as dangerous.
We’ve seen them pop off, both individually as well as a five-man unit. We’ve seen each and every member of the team do what was necessary to get the win and that’s invaluable in high-pressure situations; when TSM bring their A game, it’s quite a show. Perhaps the most important thing about this incarnation of TSM, is that they’re resilient. With Bjergsen and Doublelift by their side, they’ve weathered many storms and found a ton of success even when the odds were stacked against them.
That said, Team Liquid are so incredibly good at what they do. They’re not the most exciting team around nor will they blow your mind with any sort of flexibility, but they make few mistakes and their execution is almost always top-notch. If you’re into that sort of quintessential LCK style of play, they’re the best team that North America has to offer. They’ve been perfect against Team SoloMid throughout the second half of 2020 and there’s no reason not to give them our benefit of the doubt this time around as well. They’re far from perfect, but they know what TSM is good at and they’ll surely prepare well.
That said, this is definitely one of those Best of 5s that could go either way. So if you’re looking for a safe bet, know that there’s no such thing in Western League of Legends at the moment.
