Next up, we have yet another clash between two top-tier Chinese contenders. Frankly speaking, if you were itching to see these teams compete with the rest of the world, you were probably left disappointed. The current COVID-19 pandemic has forced Blizzard to organize a seemingly endless tournament between Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou. In an attempt to preserve competitive integrity and provide each team with the same playing conditions and infrastructure, all four challengers have been trading blows over the last couple of weeks, waiting for the entire League to normalize. That might not sound all that exciting, but seeing how they have more than enough talent within their starting line-ups, no one’s really complaining.
That said, it is becoming a bit stale to see the exact same teams take turns at fighting each other. One thing, however, has become painfully obvious: the Dragons are, without a doubt, the best, most dangerous and meta resilient Chinese team that’s currently competing in the Overwatch League. This might change over time as things revert back to normal, but as things stand, they’ve shown incredible proficiency at a staggeringly large spectrum of team comps and strategies and will no doubt showcase the same against Chengdu (again).
Shanghai basically has everyone’s number. They went 1-1 in week eight, 2-0 in week nine (avenging their first loss to the Hunters), and then stringing yet another clean 3-0 win last week. Because of this, we simply have to give them our full benefit of the doubt. They’re the heavy favorites, and with good reason.
