Golden Guardians vs. CLG is by no means a premier match-up. Heck, it’s not even close. The narratives surrounding these two organizations are simply far from hype-inducing, and it’s easy to understand why. Still, they find themselves at opposite ends of the spectrum. GGS is currently a shoo-in for the playoffs with a very respectable 8W-7L record, whereas CLG is universally deemed as one of the worst teams that North America has to offer. So even though they’re both somewhat underwhelming, there’s still a huge difference in their overall potential and sheer power.

The Guardians are entering this match after beating the defending champions Cloud9 in one of the biggest upsets of the split so far. They’re riding quite a big momentum wave and they’ve earned it — beating the boys in black and blue in such clean fashion tells us volumes about their work ethic and preparation. They’re not exactly a top-tier team, but when they lay down a solid foundation and don’t make any egregious mistakes early on, they can definitely tango with the best teams in the region — as proven by their exceptional performance mere hours ago.

CLG aren’t exactly abysmal, but they lack the individual talent and team-wide cohesion which are necessary to actually compete at the highest of levels. They’re an okay challenger with occasional pop-off moments. Nothing more, nothing less. While they can definitely trade blows with GGS, they shouldn’t be able to get the win. That said, with the LCS being extremely volatile these days, nothing is certain.
