G2 Esports vs. Fnatic 8/29/20 - 2020 LEC Summer Split Picks & Predictions

What an incredible way to start off the day: the LEC el clasico. Whenever G2 Esports and Fnatic step foot on stage to compete against each other, there’s always a reason to tune in, regardless of line-up or meta. They’re always good, that’s pretty much a fact, and 2020 is no different in that regard. G2, however, is entering this Best of 5 with a lot more hype, and there’s a very good reason why. The fashion in which they’ve outclassed MAD Lions last week was simply staggering; they wasted little time in letting everyone know they mean business, and they’re currently predicted to win the whole split, much like they did back in Spring — swiftly and with style. They’re simply the best and most talented team Europe ever fostered, and that’s especially true once Best of 5s come around. They had their faults and flaws during the regular portion of the split, but once the playoffs began, it’s once again clear why they’ve been dominating over Europe for so long.

By the same token, Fnatic aren’t much worse, but they’re just not as good. That was true back in Spring when they were outclassed in 0-3 fashion and that’s true now as well. Granted, they should be a bit more competitive this time around seeing how they’ve built more synergy with their mechanically-gifted jungler Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek, but that shouldn’t be enough against a team of G2’s caliber. The reigning champions have their sights set on defending their throne, and if they play as well as they can, there’s very little Fnatic will be able to do to stop them. 

Still, expect a chaotic Best of 5 worthy of the history books, especially if Fnatic prepares well and performs up to expectations.
