The first semifinal clash is finally here and, fortunately, it’s quite the spectacle. This, basically, is the moment we’ve all been waiting for: four of the best teams in the world colliding for a shot at glory and a sizable sack of cash. There’s a lot on the line and all four challengers are separated by the slimmest of margins. They’re all incredibly talented, mechanically gifted, and therefore insanely good at League of Legends. Three of them are stacked with experience, but what the fourth (Suning) lacks in history they more than make up for in sheer grit and drive.

In short: fireworks are all but guaranteed.

The first clash that’s on schedule is G2 Esports vs. DAMWON Gaming, a fight between the European and Korean champions. This match-up, in short, is simply mind-blowing. All ten players have not only left a mark in the history of the game but they’ve also fought against each other at last year’s World Championship when G2 took home the win in 3:1 fashion. But despite this peculiar bit of mutual history, DAMWON is now a lot more dangerous than ever before. The fact that they dropped the ball back when they were still vastly inexperienced and rough around the edges should in no way diminish their recent accomplishments — they’re one of the most mind-blowing LCK champions in history and they have all the right tools to leave a mark over the coming days and weeks.

On their path, however, stands the best and most stacked team Europe ever fostered but — more importantly — a team that has an insanely positive record against the LCK. There’s just something in G2’s hectic (one might say “crazy”) style of play that doesn’t sit well with Korean teams. They’re creative, fast, proactive, and they’re always willing to throw caution out the window and just trade blows regardless of whom they’re up against. Such bravado has earned them worldwide acclaim and with good reason: this will be their third Worlds semi-final appearance in a row.

The odds are stacked in DAMWON’s favor. After all, they’ve demolished everyone they fought against and are generally considered as the front-runners to win this year’s Worlds. They’re unlike any LCK champion in the past, and that’s a frightening notion for sure. Still, G2 Esports are no less intimidating even though they don’t have as much hype behind their backs. If you’re looking for a “safe bet” then going with DAMWON would definitely be for the best. That said, G2 Esports actually have a puncher’s chance and the potential winnings could be quite immense, which is why we’re siding with the European champions on this one.

In any case, we should definitely be in for quite a ride!
