FlyQuest vs. Evil Geniuses 8/2/20 - 2020 LCS Summer Split Picks & Predictions

This is where things get a lot more interesting — a highly anticipated rematch between the second and third best teams from Spring, respectively. These two challengers are still as talented and aggressive as ever, but they differ in the way they channel their aggression, and which avenues for success they most often opt for. Evil Geniuses are coming into this match after dropping a very close game to Team SoloMid on Friday, and even though they might not look like a particularly threatening challenger, they’ve done more than enough to warrant everyone’s benefit of the doubt. The inclusion of Huni and Goldenglue provided this team with a lot more stability and late game shotcalling which, by proxy, gave them the consistency they were lacking ever since EG re-joined the LCS a couple of months ago. They might not be as flashy as in months prior, but what they lack in highlight reels they more than make up for in stellar team fighting and clean execution (at least most of the time).

Opposite them, however, is FlyQuest. The way they’ve corrected course over the last two and a half weeks has been nothing short of mind-blowing, and the fashion in which they’re outclassing their opponents is equally as spectacular. This is the FlyQuest of old: the in sync, unrelenting, and mechanically gifted squad that goes all-in from the very moment they spawn on the Summoner’s Rift.  Once they take control of the game they make very few mistakes and have been absolutely amazing in their most recent wins against 100 Thieves, Team SoloMid, Golden Guardians, and even Team Liquid.

Evil Geniuses is a dangerous challenger, but they’re also somewhat one-dimensional and have already shown a couple of exploitable weaknesses. FlyQuest, on the other hand, have more tools to work with and know what they’re up against. They’ve found their groove yet again and are currently a Top 3 team in the region. They’re favored for a reason, although this is surely going to be a lot more competitive than most people expect. Either way, expect fireworks from the very get-go.
