2020 Mid-Season Cup - Gen.G vs. Invictus Gaming 5/29/2020 - Esports Picks, Odds, & Predictions

Next up, we have an incredibly exciting clash between the second best LCK team in Gen.G and the fourth best LPL team in Invictus Gaming. Even though this might sound like a mismatch on paper, it couldn’t be further from the truth in reality. Invictus Gaming are still as dangerous as ever, and a quick glance at their starting roster is all one should need to get hyped: TheShy in the top lane, Ning in the jungle, and the indomitable Rookie in the mid lane. Just off of that trio alone this team could go deep, not just at the Mid-Season Cup but in any international tournament.

Still, they showcased quite a few weaknesses during the playoffs and were heavily outperformed when it mattered the most. They’re still an insanely talented team, but they lacked that extra bit of oomph which was necessary to compete against other LPL giants. Was it just a bad streak, or a sign of the things to come? We simply do not know at this point in time, but if there was ever a team capable of turning things around, it has to be Invictus Gaming.

Gen.G are no slouch either, but they haven’t been nearly as dominant or clean in their Spring Split finale. While they also finished their regular season run in first place with a very impressive 78% win ratio, they were quickly outclassed by T1 in an incredibly one-sided 3-0 shellacking. It wasn’t a good sight (let alone for a Spring Split finals), and their abysmal drafting tendencies took center stage yet again.

The fact that they failed to compete with the best and most legendary LCK team in existence shouldn’t hurt their stock too much, but seeing how the LCK is still behind on the meta, we’re going to side with the “underdog” on this one. Invictus Gaming might not have what it takes to dethrone JD Gaming, but they definitely deserve a fair amount of respect for their stacked roster and staggering amount of experience.
