Saskatchewan opened its regular season with a 33-29 victory over the BC Lions. Saskatchewan raced out to a 31-0 during the second quarter but had to hold on in the end as the Roughriders scored just four points the rest of the way, while allowing 29. Saskatchewan was led by quarterback Cody Fajardo who passed for a pair of touchdowns and wide receiver Shaq Evans who caught a team-high seven passes.
