Tiger-Cats vs Stampeders Picks and Prediction – 6/8/2024
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are on the road Friday to play the Calgary Stampeders in the opening game of the 2024 CFL regular season for both teams. Hamilton finished last season 8-11 straight up and 9-9-1 against the spread. This season Hamilton has an over/under win total projection of 8.5. Last season Hamilton entered with high expectations but several injuries and less than average play from offseason acquisition quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell resulted in a poor season. Make sure you stay up to date with all the CFL action with our CFL picks.
Mitchell is expected to bounce back in his second season with the Tiger-Cats. The Ticats will have one of the league's best receivers back in Tim White and one of the best running backs in James Butler. Hamilton also has a solid offensive line. Hamilton's defense was below our last season but added Barlow Hendrix, Jordan Willams and Jamal Peters.
The Calgary Stampeders were just 6-13 straight up last season and 9-10 against the spread. Calgary has an over/under win total projection of 6.5 this season. Calgary suffered through its first losing season in 16 years and is not expected to be much better in 2024. A big part of their problem last season were injuries but even if injuries do not occur this season at the rate of last year, do not expect Calgary to contend for the Grey Cup. Quarterback Jake Maier returns for his second season under center. Maier must be more consistent after throwing 15 interceptions in 2023. The Calgary quarterback threw for less than 200 yards passing in eight games in his first season with the Stampeders. Dedrick Mills will start at running back. Malik Henry has recovered from last season's injury and will lead the receivers corps. Calgary's defense is weak on the edge and will struggle to stop the better offensive teams in the league.

Bo Levi Mitchell is still unproven at quarterback after one season with the Tiger-Cats. Calgary is expected to struggle again this season and finishing off last season failed to cover the number in four of the last six. Head to head, Hamilton was victorious both straight up and against the spread in two meetings last season. Final Score Prediction, Hamilton Tiger-Cats win and cover ATS 28-21.
