The NASCAR cup series will travel to Arizona to run at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale on Sunday for a 3:30 PM green flag drop. This race will take place on the FOX Network. Martin Truex Jr is the defending champion of this race last season before Kyle Larson took the championship race in Phoenix to win the title.

Kyle Larson is already a top the NASCAR point standings this season after a huge win at the Auto Club Speedway grabbing 52 points in the standings and 5 playoff points, and a second place finish in Las Vegas grabbing another important 48 points in the ranks. Larson started Daytona in first place however ended in 32nd grabbing only nine points in the standings.

Phoenix Raceway is home to two annual NASCAR race weekends, one of 13 facilities on the NASCAR schedule to host more than one race weekend a year. It first joined the NASCAR schedule in 1988 as a late season event, and in 2005 the track was given a spring date. The now NASCAR Truck Series was added in 1995 and the now-Xfinity Series began running in 1999

NASCAR announced that its championship weekend would be run at Phoenix for 2020, the first time since NASCAR inaugurated the weekend that Miami would not be the hosting track. The track will also hold the championship for the 2022 NASCAR Cup season.
