GMR Grand Prix - IndyCar Series Picks & Presictions

The second race of the 2020 Indycar NTT series will take the green flag on Saturday July 4th for the GMR Grand Prix at 12:30 pm EST at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. The race will be run in front of empty grandstands as no fans will be allowed because of the covid-19 outbreak. Saturday’s IndyCar series GMR Grand Prix will be part of a historic weekend for July 4th between IndyCar and NASCAR, as a doubleheader will be run with the NASCAR Xfinity series taking the green flag at 3:00 pm for the Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard following the IndyCar NTT Series event.
Team Penske has five straight victories on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and two of Penske's drivers have won all six of the GMR Grand Prix with Will Power winning in 2015, 2017 and 2018 and Simon Pagenaud winning in 2014, 2016 and 2019. Over the last two years, Power and Pagenaud have swept the Indianapolis 500 and GMR Grand Prix.
This is just the second race of the 2020 IndyCar NTT series with the first being run on June 6 with Scott Dixon winning the Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. Dixon led the race for 157 of the 200 laps giving the New Zealander 47 career victories and his fourth at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Simon Pagenaud is the defending champion and has also won in 2014 and 2016. Pagenaud is very familiar with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Pagenaud knows that leading the most number of laps does not matter as long as its the final lap that is led. In 2014, Pagenaud led just six laps but one of those was the final lap and look for the Frenchmen to take a backseat role until late in the race and pull off a second straight victory in the event.
