After months of delays and numerous race postponements, the 2020 F1 season finally gets underway on Sunday, July 5, with the first race of the new campaign taking place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
It is hardly surprising that Lewis Hamilton (+150) – who is aiming to clinch a record-equaling seventh F1 title – is the bookmakers favorite heading into the first race of the season. But it is important to remember that the Brit hasn’t enjoyed racing at the Red Bull Ring over the years. His previous and only Grand Prix win in Austria came back in 2016, and he didn’t even finish on the podium last year.
Having won the previous two races in Spielberg, Max Verstappen (+200) is the bookie’s second favorite to secure victory on the opening day of the new season. The Red Bull driver will surely be confident of clinching a third Austrian GP win in a row on Sunday.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (+425) qualified fastest at last year’s Austrian GP but ultimately failed to fend off Verstappen. The 22-year-old from Monaco stands a decent chance of claiming the win this time around, although finishing ahead of the two frontrunners won’t be easy.
Valtteri Bottas (+600) and Sebastien Vettel (+650) make up the top five. However, I think this is a three-horse race. You can find the full list of odds below.
