2020 Indianapolis 500 - IndyCar Series Odds, Picks & Predictions

The Indianapolis 500 will be run on Sunday August 23rd in front of an empty grandstand as fans are not allowed due to the covid-19 pandemic.  The 500-mile race around the 2.5-mile circuit of asphalt and brick will start at 12:30 PM EST at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. The defending champion is Simon Pagenaud.

The first time the Indianapolis 500 ran was in 1911 and since that first race the Indianapolis 500 has become to be known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” The open-wheel, open cockpit format basically means both driver and tires are exposed to the open-air. The rectangular or oval track known as the ``The Brickyard,” has a seating for over 250,000 fans but will be empty on Sunday.

Scott Dixon (+550) is the favorite for the 2020 Indianapolis 500 but several racers are expected to give Dixon a run for his money including Alexander Rossi, Marco Andretti, who is the pole sitter, and Ryan Hunter-Reay. Other racers that cannot be overlooked are defending champion Pagenaud, Will Power and Takuma Sato. Dixon is the current leader of the IndyCar Series with 244 points, while Pagenaud has 195 and Josef Newgarden 191.

Alexander Rossi (+700) was victorious at the Indianapolis 500 in 2016 as a rookie and very few drivers are able to achieve that difficult feat. That makes Rossi a contender anytime he races in the Indy 500. Rossi starts ninth on the grid but the race is 200 laps and any of the racers in the field will have an opportunity to take the checkered flag. Rossi races for the Andretti Autosport team and will pull off somewhat of an upset and take the checkered flag as the 2020 Indy 500 champion. Final Pick, Alexander Rossi +700.
