Houston Texans at San Diego Chargers 9/9/13 - NFL Free Picks, Odds, Trends, & Predictions
NFL: 10:15 PM EST September 8, 2013 TV: ESPN
On Monday, September 9, 2013, first Monday Night game of the season will be played as a double header, as the Houston Texans stroll into Qualcomm Stadium to take on the San Diego Chargers. The Texans are coming off of their best season as a franchise and a great looking preseason. They are ready to put the starters on the field to get the regular season underway.
The Texans are as talented as they were last season and even deeper. Quarterback Matt Schaub has proven that he can definitely play at the highest level. With weapons like Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels, Schaub should put up great numbers again this year.
What makes Houston so good is not just their passing game, but the fact that Arian Foster is a big play back that can carry the load. The effectiveness of Houston’s running game makes them very difficult to defend.
Even more important for Houston is their elite defense. Defesnsive coordinator Wade Phillips has built the Texans into top 5 defense. Only question has been the Texans secondary, last 5 games of 2012 saw Houston give up big passing yards.
The Chargers are hoping that they can regain past glory this season. Philip Rivers is hoping that he has lost his proclivity to throw interceptions at the most inopportune times. Phillips wants to prove that he can still play with the best of them. The Chargers running game and lack of deep threats is a big question mark for San Diego. Defense will have to carry the Chargers offense but with such a young unit it's unlikely.

Free Betting Pick: Houston Texans -3.5
Home dog on MNF is always dangerous but we still think Texans are the play. Questions on offense and defense for Chargers is too much to overlook. Texans offense is so balanced and RB Foster will have another huge opening game as he roll for 150 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Chargers can't avoid turnovers as Texans defensive pressure creates at least 3 turnovers. Final Score Prediction, Houston Texans win 27-16.
