Iowa Hawkeyes (8-4) vs. LSU Tigers (9-3)

CFB: 1:00 PM EST  January 1, 2014 TV: ESPN
Latest Odds: LSU -7  Over/Under 49

The 37th Annual Outack Bowl will feature the Big Ten's Iowa Hawkeyes facing the SEC's LSU Tigers. Raymond James Stadium located in Tampa, FL will host for 15th straight year. Might not be a BCS Bowl but it's a big money bowl earning each team $7.2 million.

New Year's Day is definitely a traditional football game watching date, and college football fans will be rewarded with an entertaining game between Iowa and LSU. The Hawkeys and Tigers both have solid performance stats, ending their seasons with 8-4 and 9-3 records, respectively. The last time the two teams met was eight years ago, and in that match Iowa took the game by five points. So there's some payback due from the Tigers' perspective.

Both national ranking and odds are putting the LSU Tigers as fairly heavy favorites. The Tigers are ranked in position 20 overall versus Iowa sitting a ways back at rank 34. That said, Iowa isn't going to roll over easily. Its defense is almost in the top ten teams in the nation, just missing rank ten by one point. So if one has no plans for the first day of the year, then watching this particular bowl game should be put on the leisure-lounge calendar.

Recent Betting Trends:

Hawkeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Bowl games.

Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Under is 4-1 in Hawkeyes last 5 Bowl games.

Under is 4-1 in Tigers last 5 Bowl games.

Free Betting Pick: LSU Tigers -7

The Big Ten has struggled historically verse the SEC in bowl games and think it continues in 2014. LSU without Mettenberger is the only question but Coach Les Miles has said that Freshman Anthony Jennings has looked great in bowl practice. Having a pair of 1,000 yard receivers will help Jennings but even more the great running game of LSU will take the pressure off Jennings. Iowa defense is good in the Big Ten but against speed of top flight SEC will show why the SEC rules. BLOWOUT winner as LSU rolls, final score prediction, LSU Tigers win and cover ATS 34-13.
